Passiflora Incarnata, the scientific name of a flower that Malaysian locals call it Bunga Markisah. Here in Taman Markisah, we have a housing community that consists of various ethnicity, cultures and religious background.

Developed since early 90s, it now has about 1,500 residents. It is located in the sprawling city of Bukit Mertajam, on the Northern state of Penang. We are about 40 minutes drive to the beautiful Penang island.

Taman Markisah has a residents' association, named Kawasan Rukun Tetangga Taman Markisah, which is a registered non-governmental organisation supervised by Jabatan Perpaduan Negara Dan Integrasi Nasional (JPNIN). At present, it consists of 25 voluntary committee members and is chaired by Mr. Tan Soon Seng since Year 2007.

The concept of Rukun Tetangga is to promote unity, harmony, and a caring attitude among neighbours in this small yet vibrant community. We had in the past organised activities such as dinner gatherings, festive celebrations, family day, sports day for youth, dialogue with Police officers, and gotong royong. A team of security patrol men, under the Skim Rondaan Sukarela (SRS) or Voluntary Patrolling Scheme, where it consists of voluntary residents, will go on rounds on random day and time to help curb the ever rising crime in the neighbourhood.
